Carlina Tapia-Ruano

Carlina Tapia-Ruano, the founding member of the law firm Tapia-Ruano & Gunn PC, in Chicago, Illinois. She concentrates her practice in family related immigration and immigration litigation. An active AILA member for almost 40 years, she is a past President of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. She is also a past Commissioner of the ABA Immigration Section, and a past Advisor of the ABA Commission on Hispanic Legal Rights and Responsibilities. She was an adjunct professor at DePaul College of Law and IIT-Kent College of Law in Chicago. She is currently serving by appointment of Illinois Senator Durbin and Senator Duckworth, on the Senators’ Screening Committee for the Northern District of Illinois, to review candidates for judicial positions in the federal District Courts. She holds a rating of AV by Martindale-Hubbell, and is listed in Woodward/White’s Best Lawyers in America. She holds an Honorary PhD of Law from Illinois Wesleyan University, and a J.D. from DePaul College of Law.
